What is a Backdrop?
Backdrops, sometimes called step-and-repeat banners, are large format print backgrounds designed for taking photos. Printed on backdrops can be full-color graphics and images, text, logos, and almost any other design. The prints, typically on vinyl or fabric, have matte finish to prevent reflection. They can be one-time use but are also durable enough for storage and re-use.
Backdrops can be placed in several different settings. They can be set up at events, providing a spot for guests to have their photos taken for memories or social media. Photographers can also use them to provide a background for their photoshoots. You may see backdrops in NYC at red-carpet events, dance clubs, photography studios, movie theaters, and weddings.

Photography Backdrop
Photography backdrops can be a solid blank color, including white black backdrops, to block out a background. They can also be images that create an imaginary background. Photographers use them to take pictures of models in their studios.
Step and Repeat Backdrops
Step and Repeat can be placed at gathering points for guests to share photos of the event. Logos can be printed in an offset platform for a branded background, or entire graphic designs can be used as decoration for more visually stunning photos.
Backdrops Specifications

Material
Most standard backdrops are printed on 13oz matte white vinyl, with a matte finish to prevent glares. Stitched fabric backdrops are available as a custom order.
Finishing Options
Our backdrops can be made with pole pockets (most common), a flush cut, hemmed sides, and grommets for hanging.
Full Color Printing
At Signs NYC, we use HP latex ink. Latex ink provides a vibrant color that is true to the design using pantone color match printing. The ink will not run and resists damage.
Backdrop Stands
We offer both standard and premium backdrop stands. Stands can expand from 5’ x 6’ to 8’ x 10’. Price varies.
Popular Backdrop Sizes
5' x 8'
5’ x 8’ stands are typically placed above the ground for a top-shot of the guests. They can fit as many as 5 to 6 people in front at a time.
8' x 8'
Our most popular size, the 8’ x 8’ square can fit 3-5 people in front, and allow full body shots for all heights.
8' x 10'
Adding 2’ to the width of the backdrop allows photographers to fit approximately double the number of people, from 6-7 total.
Custom Backdrops
Our large format printing at Signs NYC is capable of creating backdrops as large as 20’ x 40’, and our art banner welding machine can extend that length and height even further. For large events, backdrops can be used to decorate an entire wall or space. Perfect for group photos. Please note that large format custom banner print sizes cannot be completed as same-day orders.

We offer some of the fastest turnaround out there, and can create your brand new backdrops in nearly any size thanks to our large format sign printing service.
We’re one of the only businesses that can offer same-day printing services, with backdrop printing that can be ready by the evening if you order in the morning (and occasionally early afternoon). We also offer delivery services, and for a nominal fee we may even be able to offer same-day delivery and setup services to areas within NYC.

Same Day/Next Day Pickup
Signs NYC has two locations – in Brooklyn, NY and Linden, NJ – for local customers to pick up their banner. Same day pickup is available for most standard size banners.
Pantone Color Match Printing
Signs NYC uses pantone matching to identify and print true to color photos and imagery, including matching your brand colors exactly.
